Recent research and development have significantly enhanced the ability to control and manipulate laser beams using advanced techniques and optical controls. As a result, laser welding stands at the cutting edge of weld technology, offering unmatched versatility and efficiency. With few limitations regarding weld depth and technique, laser welding delivers outstanding results across a variety of materials and applications, making it the go-to choice for industries seeking precision, quality, and reliability in their welding processes. 

Choosing the Right Laser Source

 

Selecting the right laser for your welding application is critical to achieving optimal results, and at Weld Solutions, we proudly endorse IPG fiber lasers as our preferred choice. The appropriate laser selection depends on various factors, including the material being welded, the objective (seal or structural) , and the desired production that will dictate weld speed. For instance, high-speed keyhole welding is best executed with a continuous wave laser, while a conductive pulsed quasi-continuous wave laser may be a preferred alternative when your part is sensitive to heat or is highly reflective. With a comprehensive range of laser technologies at our disposal, Weld Solutions is well-equipped to develop customized welding solutions tailored to your needs, ensuring the use of the right equipment within your budget to achieve the best possible outcomes.

  1. Conduction Welding: This method fuses materials together without the need for filler material. With a low power rating, it is particularly effective for thin metals and fitted edges, ensuring strong joints with minimal thermal distortion.
  2. Deep Penetration/ Keyhole Welding: Ideal for welding thick components, this technique employs high laser power to create a deep and wide heat-affected zone. The process often begins with the laser cutting a keyhole that penetrates through the material, allowing for full-thickness welding. 
  3. Laser Spot Welding: Best suited for small and intricate parts, laser spot welding creates smaller, localized welds that are perfect for making point joints between edges or for merging two parts by melting through the top one.
  4. Laser Seam Welding: This method produces long, continuous seams and typically involves the use of a filler rod. It employs pool control techniques similar to those seen in traditional electrical welding methods, enabling the formation of strong, consistent joints.
  5. Hybrid Laser Welding: This approach combines laser welding with other welding processes, enhancing the benefits of both techniques. It allows for improved penetration and flexibility, making it suitable for a variety of materials and thicknesses.
